The Minolta Maxxum 5 Camera

Minolta Maxxum 5 CameraThe Minolta Maxxum 5 is the world's smallest and lightest SLR camera. It packs a powerful punch of high-performance features that will quickly satisfy beginner photographers and family users as well as photo hobbyists. High-level autofocus technology, a powerful film drive, super-fast shutter speeds, top-of-the-line metering, and an abundance of creative control make the little Maxxum 5 a winner.

World’s Smallest and Lightest Body
What good is a high-performance camera if you don’t want to bring it with you? Minolta understands this and the Maxxum 5 sets a new SLR standard for take-anywhere convenience. It’s easy to pack, carry, and handle, so you can instantly react on your creative impulses anytime and anywhere.

Fastest Autofocusing in its Class
The Maxxum 5's high-response autofocus system ensures that those once-in-a-lifetime moments will not be lost. Multiple improvements in this generation of Maxxum autofocusing include a high-power AF drive motor, high-speed microcomputer, refined control algorithm, faster CCD control processing, new AF real time start control, and quicker stopping. Even fast action and random shutter releases with Predictive Focus Control.

7-Point AF System with Wide Focus Area
Minolta's new 7-point AF System is used in the Maxxum 5's wide focus area. The sensors are laid out to the "rule of thirds" and work in unison, giving you the creative flexibility of positioning your main subject anywhere within the wide focus frame. The center crosshair sensor ensures precise focus regardless of vertical or horizontal subject contrast in continuous AF, the 7-point system takes control so you can concentrate completely on the viewfinder image.

User-Selectable Focus Areas
For creative image compositions, you may want to switch between the wide focus area and the local focus areas to single out an off-center subject without recomposing the shot. In this case, simply press the spot AF button. The local focus areas can be individually selected using both the spot AF button and the control dial. This feature is particularly valuable when the camera is on a tripod.

AF Modes - Automatic, Single-Shot, and Continuous
For maximum autofocus versatility, the Maxxum 5 offers three AF modes, single-shot, continuous, and automatic. Single-shot AF locks focus on stationary subjects. Continuous/predictive AF tracks moving subjects and adjusts accordingly right up to and during the moment of shutter release. Automatic AF mode determines whether the subject is moving or still and automatically selects either single shot or continuous AF.

Eye-Start Automation
Sometimes a perfect photo opportunity happens in the blink of an eye. The Maxxum 5 is ready, with Eye-Start Automation. Eye Start saves precious seconds and activates autofocus and autoexposure the instant you bring the camera to your eye.

Depth-of-Field Preview
This highly sought-after feature lets you evaluate the depth-of-field at a given aperture before the picture is taken. Depth-of-field preview is especially useful to check subject and background focus when using a small aperture, or to see the extent of sharp detail in macro photography.

14-Segment Honeycomb-Pattern Metering plus Spot Metering
The Maxxum 5's state-of-the-art metering system delivers accurate exposure under a wide and diverse range of photographic conditions. 14-segment metering measures light levels from 13 segments in a honeycomb pattern across the viewfinder frame plus the background, with emphasis on the segments surrounding the focus sensor in use. Spot metering mode concentrates the meter's sensitivity into the center segment for precise metering of a small portion of the subject or scene.

Built-In Flash
The Maxxum 5’s built-in flash provides coverage for lenses as wide as 28mm. Auto, off, fill-flash, red-eye reduction, and wireless remote flash control modes give you creative flash control without fuss. For greater flash output and versatility, high-powered Maxxum flash units and macro flash sets are available as optional accessories.

Subject Program Selection
Beginner photographers now have the ability to control the camera according to the subject without a working knowledge of apertures and shutter speeds. Five modes are available, each ideally suited for a specific type of shot. Choose from portrait, landscape, close-up, sports action, or night portrait.

Fully Automatic Film Operation
Loading film is a snap with the Maxxum 5. All you do is insert the film cartridge and position the film leader. The camera sets the film speed then threads, advances, and rewinds the film automatically. You can activate power rewind anytime.
